About HiSETSuccess.org
A student-led resource helping others discover proven pathways from alternative education to college success.
Why This Site Exists
Most educational websites explain exams. They tell you what HiSET is, how to register, and what score you need. But they stop there. They don't tell you what happens next — how to get into community college, how to transfer to a UC, or how to build a career from a nontraditional start.
HiSETSuccess.org was created to fill that gap. We explain the complete pathway from alternative education to college and career success, with real stories, practical guides, and mentorship for students who don't fit the traditional mold.
How This Started
HiSETSuccess.org was built by students who took a nontraditional path — leaving traditional high school early, earning an equivalency credential, and enrolling at community college while still a teenager.
The journey from community college to a top university was not straightforward. Transfer requirements were confusing, mentors were hard to find, and few people understood a nontraditional background. Through an honors program, careful planning, and persistence, the path worked.
That experience — the confusion, the breakthroughs, and ultimately the success — became the foundation for HiSETSuccess.org. If one student could figure out this path, the information should be available to everyone.
A Path That Works
This pathway serves as proof that alternative routes work:
- Step 1: Leave traditional high school and earn HiSET (or a legacy equivalency)
- Step 2: Enroll at community college and join an honors program if available
- Step 3: Complete major prep and maintain a strong GPA
- Step 4: Transfer to a UC or CSU with a clear application story
While CHSPE is no longer administered, the same pathway is available through HiSET and other equivalency programs. The principles — early college enrollment, honors programs, and strategic transfer planning — remain the same.
Our Goals
HiSETSuccess.org aims to demonstrate leadership, initiative, and service through education advocacy:
- Publish 50+ resources for students, parents, and educators
- Share 20 student success stories over time
- Connect students with mentors who understand alternative pathways
- Become the most trusted resource for nontraditional college pathways
Future Vision
In Year 2, we plan to expand with student ambassadors, a scholarship database, transfer planning tools, and an annual alternative education summit. The ultimate vision: every student considering an alternative path has a clear, proven roadmap to college and career success.
Our Admissions Operating System is now live — an interactive planner for school targets, experience tracking, PIQ drafts, and deadlines.
